Afrobeat can seem like a saturated market at times, in need of something a little bit different, and that’s exactly what we’re getting from Bimbi Philips’ new material that takes the classic genre and blends it with elements of EDM, dancehall and house.
‘Lamba’ is Bimbi’s latest track and it doesn’t disappoint on first listen. Bimbi’s smooth and seductive vocals steal the show, but that’s not mentioning the infectious beat that has you tapping your foot from the off and the intermittent guitar line that flickers in and out, adding new sonic texture to Bimbi’s individual afrobeat style.
What’s more is that Bimbi aims to be the ultimate performer for his fans, giving them live experiences they’ll never forget. One way in which he does this is by having his backing dancers alongside him, inspired by afrobeat legend Fela Kuti’s ‘Kalakuta Queens’, who you’ll see in the masterfully crafted video.
As well as Fela Kuti, Bimbi is influenced by the likes of R&B duo, P-Square, Wayne Wonder and Major Lazer.
